A new initiative for Hellesdon residents is providing a chance to get involved with bee keeping, the community apiary is situated at the Bush Road allotments site.
There are several volunteers who currently manage the apiary, they have collected swarms from local gardens which now occupy the hives. The expectation is that there will not be a great production of honey in the first year of establishing new hives, the hope is that next year they will be able to yield more which will then be sold.
They are currently recording video’s which are now being uploaded to a youtube channel, this is to show their progress and also for educational purposes as two of the volunteers are experienced bee keepers.
If anyone is interested in getting involved with the apiary, please contact the Parish office.
